Last Tuesday I got to meet one of my conversation partners, Omar, at tea time. From the bat I could tell that we were going to get along really well. His speaking skills were very advanced and he informed be that he is in grammar group 6a at the CIES. Once we got to speaking about what his interests were and what he enjoyed doing around Tallahassee I learned that he was a huge soccer fan but an even big movie/cinema fan. Right here I knew that this was a great topic for discussion because I am also a giant movie fan. I asked him what some of his favorites were (Gladiator/Green Mile) and he asked me what mine were. I (relatively smugly in retrospect) said that he probably didn't know which my favorites were because they were (in comparison to his favorites) a bit more obscure. He then challenged me to tell him and I was shocked to learn that he not only knew every single one of my favorites, but knew the actors, directors, and even random trivia - he knew that Kevin Spacey voiced the robot Gerty in the movie Moon! Since Tuesday we have been in touch with each other a lot of text and are going to meet up in an hour at First Friday to see the great Ramin rock out on some drums !
