Today I met up with my conversation partner Minsuk at tea time and for the majority of the time we played Scrabble. While we talked, we went over how the past week had been and talked about plans from last weekend and plans for this weekend. Apparently last weekend he had wanted to go to Panama City beach but wasn't feeling well enough to go due to partying the night before. So I told him that this upcoming weekend he, his wife, and a few of the other kids from CIES could go to the rez and spend some time on the water. He has never been there, and sounded like he really wanted to go. I'm also tutoring his wife, Lee, and this Friday they both want to meet up with me and work with me on their English. His wife isn't planning on going to University here, but she wants to know English just for the sake of knowing it, but Minsuk is getting really anxious about the TOEFL test at the end of the month because he does want to get in a university. I'm thinking about taking them to Panera and studying with them there this Friday. In the meantime, Minsuk really enjoyed playing Scrabble and I think he wants to play it again. After a while, a lot of the other students who weren't speaking with conversation partners became really interested in the game and were actually trying to give Minsuk hints on where to put his letter tiles. They were really funny in that they were looking over both of our shoulders and trying to play through us by telling us where to put our tiles. Next time, I'll go to Wal-Mart and get a card game called Apples to Apples. It's a good game for English learning speakers and the more players there are, the more fun it is. But until then, we'll probably stick to Scrabble.
