Jackson_TP3
Thursday I met with Jasem for our first well coordinated and thought out tutoring session. We had agreed in our previous meeting that we would be covering pronouns and adverbs as well as covering the basics with nouns, verbs, and adjectives. The lesson went much better than expected, with Jasem not only picking up a full understanding of the grammar rule but also the vocabulary involve, as well as the discrepancy between a possessive pronoun and a possessive adjective. There were a variety of methods that I used to help Jasem understand pronouns and adjectives, including grammar games from the internet as well as hands on examples where he would have to write a sentence on the board and identify the subject, object, and verb and then include/replace certain key words with a pronoun and an adverb. I think one of the most striking moment in our lesson was when we were working on demonstrative pronouns. I had placed an eraser on a desk across the room and asked Jasem to write a sentence on the board using a demonstrative pronoun. Naturally, in my mind I had already formulated the answer I was looking for - "that eraser is on the desk" - and had implied to him in subtle ways that this was the answer I was looking for. However, he took it one step further and wrote "The eraser is on that desk over there." All in all it was a great lesson and I'm confident my tutoring partner now has a much clearer understanding of what was covered. We agreed that for our next meeting we would work on prepositions, which is perfect because I have already written a lesson plan for this (for our first submitted LP) and I'm excited to see how it goes with him.
