After a bit of phone tag, I was able to meet with my other conversation partner, Ahmed, last week. He's a really nice guy from Saudi Arabia, and we got a chance to chat over a cup of coffee at Atomic. Ahmed likes to fish, and was thinking of hiring a charter boat about an hour away. Although I love boats, I never fish, so unfortunately I wasn't much help. I did think it was kind of interesting that Ahmed didn't like that fact that when you order fish in a restaurant in the U.S., it is served without the head and tail. When he orders fish, he's accustomed to getting the whole thing. Atomic Coffee is right next to Pitaria, which has a Mediterranean grocery store in it. We browsed around for a few minutes and Ahmed settled on a jar of cheese, while I got a Turkish cook book. Ahmed told me to invite him when I decide to cook some Turkish food, but he's bound to be disappointed; the cook book was for my mom, and I'm not sure my non-existent cooking skills are the best ambassador for American cuisine. For now, I think we'll just have to find a good Arabic restaurant around town.
