After a lot of phone tagging and rescheduling, I was finally able to hang out with my other conversation partner from China, Xinwen. Xinwen and I met very briefly at Tea Time in the CIES a few weeks ago, but I did not blog about it because I didn't get too much information about her! It was really great to finally get to know Xinwen. We went to Banditos Burritos (one of my favorite places and it is right by my house). Xinwen is only 19, but her conversation skills are excellent! She was able to express herself so well. She just graduated high school four months ago and is planning on staying here in America for five years to study International Business. She is spunky and adventurous! While we were eating, my friends called me up and invited me to go to Lofty Pursuits; so I invited Xinwen along! It was nice having her meet my friends. They like to talk a lot so Xinwen definitely got a lot of practice tonight!

When we went to Lofty Pursuits, the ice cream dude behind the counter recognized Xinwen from CIES! Turns out, he had just finished the Summer Session I TEFL course. He is planning on teaching in Saudi Arabia. He also couldn't stop talking about how cool Ramin is :) Xinwen, my friends, and I all enjoyed some ice cream together and had a nice drive home at sunset. I think Xinwen had a great time! For our next meeting she wants to show me the go-carts at the Fun Station!

Xinwen and I!

  1. Sounds like a lot of fun and a great way to get to know your conversation partner. I think it's a great idea to go out on the town with conversation partners because they can experience our culture a little more effectively and also the conversations can not quite so confined. How did she like Banditos Burritos? That's really awesome that she just graduated from high school and is already taking such a jump into a completely different country.
