I visited Ryan Flemming's Listening class on Tuesday. He started his class by taking attendance and casually conversing with the students. Afterwards, he reviewed what happened in the class the day before. I think review is a very important part of learning anything. Review helps memory retention, which in language learning is very beneficial. The lesson included American interviews of different people. They broke up in groups and did the review exercise which happened to be the beginning exercise. Some students spoke in their native tongue. Maybe they should have been split up in a different manner, since there weren't assigned seats, the students sat by those with similar ethnicity. If they were split it would have been better in the sense of not speaking in a foreign language. Also there were some students that used phones and didn't seem too interested. Ryan checked around to see how students were doing which was good. He did very well in helping out the students. When they moved to the new lesson, they listened to the recording twice and then were asked to summarize and then tell him what happened. While this was happening someone walked in and he dealt well with being interrupted. There was a lot of interaction and he gave the students the website he got the recording. I learned a lot from him.
