After a few scheduling mix-ups, my tutoring partner Michelle
and I were finally able to meet up this afternoon! The CIES lounge was full so
went over to Deffenbaugh. First, Michelle and I went over what she did in class
today, it was a worksheet on greetings and common everyday questions. She
wanted to review it with me because she had a lot of questions. I came to find
out that she is in Group 1 at CIES so I took it very slow; I could tell she was
relieved and appreciative of that. Next, I had her read a short passage out
loud about living in apartments. She a lot of trouble pronouncing certain
words, but after a while she started to notice the patterns and improved as the
lesson went on. I followed the story by asking her questions about her living
situation and going over the vocabulary in the passage. It turns out she lives
with my other conversation partner, Ruth! The last exercise we worked on
together was the past perfect tense and the difference between
"since" and "for" in that context. She caught on so quickly
and looked so excited about it. It was a great tutoring session and I think
next time I will have her read a little more.
If you happen to see Michelle tomorrow, tell her happy
birthday!
