Last night I gathered up my two conversation partners, Yi-Jhen and Joyce, as well as my ITA Serena, and we all went to Po'boys! For those of you who don't know, Po'Boys is a New-Orleans style restaurant unique to Tallahassee, and one of their signature dishes is alligator. None of them had ever tried alligator, so I thought this would be a fun experience! They ended up loving it! We got to the restaurant, and I explained that the food was New-Orleans Louisiana style, and what Gumbo and Jambalaya were. Serena had never met Yi-Jhen or Joyce before, so it was fun introducing everyone! I started off asking everyone what types of different foods they serve in Asia that they thought were unusual (since alligator is pretty unusual even for America). They said that in some places in Asia, people ate Tuna fish eyes, cockroaches, and snake! I stated some weird foods that are eaten in America include bison, alligator, and deer. We also got on the topic of insurance and I explained how expensive it is in America, and they explained that in China and Taiwan the government pays for everything and it'll only cost you, like, $3 if you break your arm or something! So not fair! Then all my conversation partners decided to embarrass me and pull up a picture of me and my boyfriend I had posted on facebook. (I am a super shy person when it comes to dating, and they all thought it was hilarious how shy I was). Then our food came out - I ordered Seafood Gumbo and an alligator appetizer for everyone. Yi-Jhen also got Seafood Gumbo, Joyce got Jambalaya, and Serena got a New Orleans Pasta. We all tried each others food and everything was very good! Then Yi-Jhen went to the bathroom and I realized that it was her birthday yesterday, so Joyce ordered some dessert and I asked our waitress if she could put candles on the dessert and sing for her. We all got to sing happy birthday to her, and even though Yi-Jhen was a little embarrassed, I could tell she was really happy about it. We all paid for our checks and I took everyone home. We listened to Korean music on the way home, and they thought it was so funny I had a Korean mix CD! Overall it was a super fun night!
