Thursday (7/12) before class, headed to CIES to meed with what has become my "conversational group" in the lounge. As I was walking up to the Eppes building I found Nassar (my TP) skating out as per usual! Samer, Ahmad and Amr however, were in the lounge awaiting my arrival. We sat down and small talked for a bit, and Soufiane, a gentleman from France, casually joined our conversation. He is a business major and was advised by "a friend" to learn English he said that "English is the language of business."

The meat of our conversation was about Ramadan. Since all of them are Muslim (3 Arabic and 1 French), they were all able to contribute a lot to the conversation (with Ahmad contributing the least due to his lower level English skills). They explained to me that Ramadan is practice for 30 days every Fall. During Ramadan Muslims fast from food, liquid, sex and drugs from Sunrise to Sunset (typically intoxicants are avoided by orthodox Muslims at all times, but those who do smoke must abstain during the daylight hours). Some Muslims read a chapter of the Quran each day during this period (the Quran is comprised of 30 Chapters in total).

We also talked about the Five Corners of Islam, the Six Beliefs of Islam, and Faith. It was definitely an enlightening conversation : )
