Yesterday evening my conversation partner, Dohoun, and I went to go eat Korean BBQ. We were supposed to go to First Friday the previous evening, but my car broke down and we rescheduled. Dohoun was really excited about going to a Korean restaurant so he could tell me all about Korean cuisine. He ordered the spiciest dish on the menu and I tried the Unagi bowl (eel). We also tried a delicious rice drink called "sikhye"that tasted like a coconut icee. It was an excellent meal! I enjoyed hearing about Dohoun's life in Korea and he was very interested in hearing about my life as well. Even though he misses his home, he is extremely optimistic about his time here in America. He is fearless! He had so many questions about our culture and wants to experience it all. For our next meeting, I think we are going to go to the gym and then enjoy some American cuisine!

My first Korean cuisine experience: kimchi, miso soup, and eel. I could tell Dohoun enjoyed showing me an important aspect of his culture.

  2. That's a really good idea for a CP meeting. I hope I can go to a restaurant with a cuisine that my CP is familiar with so I can learn about their culture.

  3. Oh my gosh, I love Korean BBQ! That is such a fun idea - it might be a cool idea to show him American BBQ if he's never tried it!
