Charles_TP1

Today I met with my TP Hamad who is also one of my CPs. This was my first tutoring session and it was an interesting experience. Since we already knew each other from our last CP meeting, I decided to just dive right into grammar.  Hamad needed help with the usage of some past verb tenses. We went over the present perfect and pluperfect tenses. We started with the present perfect, I wrote down some examples and explained them. After that, Hamad was able to come up with a few examples of his own. I then explained the pluperfect and Hamad was able to come up with examples for that as well. We used my laptop to look up lessons on google that were surprisingly easy to find. After we defined the two tenses, I explained how to distinguish between them as they could easily be mixed up. Hamad understood that the only thing that really changes is the auxiliary verb while the past participle stayed the same. I felt instant gratification when I was explaining this to him and it was even nicer when he understood and could produce examples on his own. I did not assign any homework to Hamad because he could demonstrate the uses very well. He did note that he has some trouble with prepositions so I am going to prepare a worksheet for our next meeting.

It's really nice when they explicitly state what they have trouble with, isn't it?

Check out this lesson for German students learning English prepositions:

  2. Well done, Charles. I would say give him/brinstorm some ideas of how he could apply this outside of class, regardless if it is a formal HW assignment.

For those wondering, the pluperfect is also know an the past perfect ;)
