After we took a break, Jaewoo had to go, but Sangwon said he was ok to do more tutoring. By the way--Sangwon got his scores back from his presentation that he did in class and ended up getting 14 points out of 16! Anyways, we had just watched the movie Disturbia and I gave him a verbal quiz about who said, did what and what they were about. So after the verbal part, I thought it would be a good idea to practice written skills, since that was the second biggest problem he had difficulty with. So I practiced with him by giving him specific things to write about. I took the movie and asked him to make a list of things he did and didn't like about the movie, or at least the parts that stuck out to him the most. After he made the list, I had him write about WHY he did or didn't like these parts. At first he had difficulty with this because he was like "I just did! I can't explain why!" But then I asked him, "Well was it funny or different from what goes on in other movies?" And then when he said yes, I told him to write those reasons down. I didn't have him write down a lot of information down, but mainly practiced the format and grammar of the sentences. He still has difficulty with words like "the" and "a" and knowing when to use which one. Either way, Sangwon did really well today and I can tell he's getting better!
