Today I met up Ilke and Ufuk in the library for our tutoring session. They had been in Strozier all day studying English and doing research for their jobs. I happened to run into them at the library before our session, and I got the chance to ask them what they wanted to focus on today. They both told me that they were confused about using "yet", "already", and "whether". So, I was able to find some really great resources online before our session. I created a lesson plan starting with the perfect present tense and some exercises with "yet" and "already". They caught on right away! Then, I went on and explained "whether". They were confused at first because they were unsure when to use "whether" and "if", but after a few exercises they started to see the patterns and began to understand. It was hilarious because once Ufuk understood he said, "My lightbulb just lit up!!!"
After that, I had Ufuk and Ilke do a speed writing exercise. We haven't done much writing practice so I thought it was about time we tried it out. I had them write about what they were going to do when they returned to Turkey. With this prompt, I knew they wouldn't run out of things to write about. Once their time was up, I had them each read their writings aloud. Then I briefly went over the grammar mistakes, mostly finding problems with articles and verb tenses. Overall, Ufuk and Ilke did great today.

Ufuk just got an iPad so he took a bunch of picture of Ilke and I :)
